So how do you follow up an Oscar-winning performance in one of the most talked about movies of the year? With another one ought to do it. Emma Stone fresh from her wonderful emotional portrayal of Mia in LA LA LAND here becomes tennis ace Billie Jean King, battling the game’s inequality along with Steve Carell’s former champion Bobby Riggs in the milestone 1973 match which became known as the Battle of the Sexes.
From the look of the first trailer that’s recently hit the web, the upcoming movie from Little Miss Sunshine directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, we could have one of the films of the year on its way in October.
With a terrific supporting cast including Stone’s Birdman co-star Andrea Riseborough, Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Silverman and Alan Cumming, there certainly be no shortage of acting power on the court. And of course Stone and Carell also have history – playing brilliantly together as father and daughter in the smart and funny comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love.
